Wilted 04:50
All of the things That you wanted to say Have gone away Far from here Away from the fears That hold me down Another reason to be bold My bones and brain are getting old I don't want to lie to you I lie enough to myself (to myself) I don't want to die tonight Not now (not now) I'm not ready Chorus: Bonded by instability Grounded in inability To unwind myself from these threads that tangle us Our excuses, well, they strangle us And I love your design You confuse me every time Springtime is here and it's spent in apathy All around me Flowers in bloom While something inside me wilts in gloom Another reason to be bold They tried to take away my soul I don't need to prove to you My life (my life) You're not listening I don't want to die tonight Not now (not now) You won't take me

On Display 04:08
Emptiness The only now, the hurt And are you lonely now You go back in the dirt What do I know? The stars seek past Orion And it’s crucial, I know To paint the Halls of Dying Find a way to memories of the past Ancestral pain, we have to mend the gash And what do we know? We made this mistake before It’s so crucial, I know I need to act more, but Numbing cycle consumes me and I Want to, need to, feel like I’m gonna die I can’t expect you to understand You’re looking through the glass

No Future 04:38
So another night Idly passes by I’m blanking out, staking out Who’s invading my mind That creeps so steadily There’s no future No future for me So many mines in a field of vines I’m breaking out, thinking out A futile escape from thee It’s easy to see There’s no future No future for me This is no time for survival There is no time, I thought I told you Crushed under the weight of it all I surrender to the depths of my soul Cruelty plays a part In carving up the heart I’m passing out, crashing down I reach out to adore thee But you don’t see me There’s no future No future for me A downward spiral fall A spirit heard the call But I atrophied In my apathy I made a promise to me I’m sorry to see There’s no future No future for me

about

A huge Thank You to anyone who supports my music. I am grateful to spend a little time with you sonically. :) Thank you to those who truly believe in me and encourage me - you know who you are! Thank you to Jason Banning for adding keys/synth/string arrangement to my songs that enhanced the emotional quality of the songs even more.

The first part of “Wilted” that was written was the chorus (“Bonded by instability…”). The chord progression organically and quickly took shape; there was something special about it that reminded me of a classic moody and modal 90s alternative style. Something that I could imagine Scott Weiland and Aimee Mann singing. I applied the rest of that style fused with my own style to the rest of the song, musically and lyrically. Lyrically, the song is about feeling outcast, yet defiant in refusing to change to please others. Not all of us are flowers in bloom, some of us are “wilted,” but to me, imperfections and “mistakes” give things and people character.

“On Display” is about generational trauma and how events from our past still affect our actions today. This song and “No Future” are both recorded with clean electric guitar (my Fender Strat), whereas “Wilted” was fully acoustic. “On Display” carries on the theme of feeling outcast from society – the lyric “you’re looking through the glass” in the chorus evokes the feeling of being on display at an exhibit while people stare at you from the other side of the glass.

A friend of mine described the lyrics for “No Future” as “heartbreaking and beautiful.” It is written from the point of view of someone who is at their lowest low, at rock bottom. In my experience, it’s often times comforting when I see or hear something that expresses a deep emotion that I myself can’t put into words. There is this feeling of human connection through the universal feelings of sadness, grief, and heartbreak.
